Our Convertible HVAF and HVOF ID gun is advanced equipment for the deposition of wear resistant tungsten carbide and Hastelloy-type coatings onto internal surfaces of pipes, bends and bores. It is not an extension – it is a high velocity combustion gun with axial powder feed.
The Kermetico Convertible ID HVAF + HVOF Gun for Coating Pipe Diameters as Small as 80 mm (3.15”)
We created our Convertible ID lance in 2017 to spray coatings onto internal diameters as small as 3.15 inches (80mm) to a depth of up to 5 feet (1,500 mm). Low power (just 30-40 kW) prevents the ID gun and the workpiece from overheating, and the efficient design of the gun results in the effective spraying of alloyed and tungsten carbide coatings onto internal diameters.
Inner surfaces of pipes and bores frequently need corrosion and wear resistant coatings to prevent damage from aggressive media.
We have designed our Convertible HVAF and HVOF gun on the basis of our successful HVAF AK-ID gun. It features the same axial powder supply and spray angle, that makes it extremely efficient in depositing wear and corrosion resistant coatings onto internal surfaces. It works both in HVAF mode (cooler combustion) and HVOF (higher combustion temperature).
HVOF ID Coating Applications
The Convertible HVAF + HVOF ID thermal spray system is ideal for hardfacing internal diameters of pipes, tubes, barrels, and cylinder bores that can be effectively rotated.
The ID gun provides uniform non-permeable wear and corrosion resistant cermet coatings with a spray rate up to 5 kg or 11 lbs. per hour, achieving a tungsten carbide coating hardness of 950 HV300 in internal diameters less than 4” and over 1,100 HV300 hardness in 4.0” (102 mm) and larger internal diameters.
ID Coating Quality
Temperature: air and oxygen combustion allows us to manage the combustion temperature, optimizing it for the best quality and deposition efficiency for a given powder.
Heating efficiency: The heating of the feedstock particles in the combustion chamber occurs at high pressure, where heat transfer is the most efficient. The size of the chamber provides a long residence time for the material to heat. Thus, the energy transfer efficiency is increased noticeably compared to other high-velocity spraying methods. This results in much higher spray rates for our Convertible high velocity combustion guns in general.
The Application of Wear and Corrosion Resistant Cermet Coatings onto Internal Diameters with Our HVAF & HVOF ID Guns
We recommend using our equipment for thermal spray coating of:
- pipes and fittings
- bends and elbows
- pump housings and sleeves
- cylinder bores
- complex parts, like hydro turbine Francis runners
Spraying Complex Parts
In some cases, such as pumps or Francis runners, it is not enough to deposit a coating onto internal surfaces. We need to protect both internal and external surfaces. While many shops have just one model of a given technology in-house, we make equipment to address both of these requirements. Our Convertible family complements our ID’s capabilities with two outer diameter guns and one Internal Diameter Rotating gun (IDR):
We can also add compact robot-mounted and hand-held HVAF AK guns:
- AK5 – a compact gun to spray smaller parts, thin walls and complex surfaces
- AK-HH – a handheld gun for on-site coating
And a few Specialized systems for spraying metals that are unusual for traditional HVOF:
- SL – a specialized gun for spraying low melting point metals
- SP – a dedicated gun for the most efficient precious metals’ deposition
- STi – a specialized gun for the deposition of titanium and Ti-alloy coatings
Additional auxiliary equipment:
- A Grit Feeder for the hot grit blast preparation of parts to reduce coating costs
- A Gas Permeability Tester for an instant check of a coating’s through porosity
- A Powder De-Duster to remove undesirable fine particles from a metallic powder
Kermetico, Inc. –Material Science Excellence, HVAF and HVOF Equipment Manufacturing and Thermal Spray Coating Services Since 2006
Kermetico is not just an ID thermal spray gun developer. We produce complete high velocity air fuel systems running on propane, propylene, natural gas and MAPP gas.
Since our incorporation in 2006, we have installed more than 60 HVAF and HVOF systems in the USA, Europe, Japan and China.
Some of the systems are at work in Universities and National Labs, but most of them are used in production thermal spray shops.
We can equip our systems with different guns; they are robust and technologically efficient. And they are not expensive.
For example, our system pays back your investment while spraying the second metric ton of tungsten carbide coatings.
We proudly design and produce our HVAF and HVOF thermal spray equipment in California and install it around the world. You are invited to visit our R&D center in Benicia to meet our designers and see our equipment in action.
We operate a coatings shop where we spray a large variety of parts for our local West Coast customers.
